Mr Giles Bond-Smith is a Consultant General Surgeon with an interest in liver, pancreatic and biliary (HPB) surgery as well as complex hernia surgery at The Manor Hospital, Oxford.

Before being appointed as a Consultant Surgeon at Oxford University NHS Foundation Trust in 2016 Giles Bond-Smith graduated from University College Hospital Medical School, London. 

Mr Giles Bond-Smith’s surgical training was carried out in London working at University College Hospital, The Royal Free Hospital, St Bartholomew’s Hospital and the Royal London Hospital. He also travelled abroad to gain laparoscopic HPB experience at the Mayo Clinic, USA.

Since being appointed to Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Mr Giles Bond-Smith has established, leads and carries out the complex abdominal wall reconstruction service. This means that Mr Giles Bond-Smith is well equipped to manage all types of hernia, however complex, often utilising keyhole techniques.

With an interest in HPB surgery any benign gallbladder, liver or pancreatic pathology e.g. symptomatic gallstones, an inflamed gallbladder can be expertly managed at The Manor Hospital. Mr Giles Bond-Smith is one of the few surgeons in the UK to utilise laser to treat troublesome gallstones that have slipped into the wrong part of the liver drainage system (LABEL Procedure.) As the Clinical Lead for the Surgical Emergency Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital Mr Giles Bond-Smith can has a vast experience in diagnosing and managing many acute abdominal problems such as appendicitis, pancreatitis, cholecystitis, abscesses and acute hernia problems.
